Program Breakdown

Occupational First Aid Level 1

The WorkSafeBC Occupational First Aid Level One course is an 8 hour program, including coffee and lunch breaks. In order to be successful, candidates must demonstrate practical skill competency and achieve 70% on a multiple choice exam. On successful completion of the course, participants receive a 3-year certification.

The course curriculum includes:

  • Basic Life Support (CPR-A)
  • Small Wound Management
  • Critical airway, breathing and circulation interventions with C-spine management.

Occupational First Aid Level 2

The WorkSafeBC Occupational First Aid Level Two course is a 36 hour program designed for the urban attendant. Initial certification requires full participation and course attendance, as well as satisfactory results in both a written and practical exam. Upon successful completion the participant will receive certification that is valid for 3 years.

The course curriculum includes:

  • Basic Life Support (CPR-A)
  • Scene assessment
  • Patient assessment
  • Critical airway & breathing and circulatory interventions with C-spine management; including insertion of oral airways, use of oxygen therapy equipment and bag valve mask
  • Small wound, soft tissue, and fracture management

Occupational First Aid Level 3

The WorkSafeBC Occupational First Aid Level Three course is a 70 hour program designed for remote worksites or employers with large workforces more than 20 minutes from medical aid. Initial certification requires full participation and course attendance plus passing both a written and practical exam. Upon successful completion the participant will receive certification that is valid for three years.

The course curriculum includes:

  • Basic Life Support & CPR (CPR A)
  • Patient assessment
  • Critical airway & respiratory, interventions with C-Spine management, including insertion of oral airways, use of oxygen therapy equipment and bag valve mask
  • Circulatory interventions and management
  • Small wound, soft tissue, and fracture management
  • Rapid transport criteria
  • Suction

Occupational First Aid Level 3 (Paramedic in Industry)

This is a WorkSafeBC course that is comprised of a home study component plus a 4 hour, in class, practical workshop. The Pii workshop includes the competencies that are not included in paramedic training bur are required by an occupational first aid attendant in industry.

Registrants in the Pii workshop will be required to present valid picture ID and EMA License. Upon successful completion of the Pii course an EMA license holder will be granted an OFA Level 3 Pii Certificate (valid for 3 years), and will qualify for 20 CME credits. Pii Certificates are only valid and recognized in industry if the Paramedic License issued by the EMALB remains current and valid.

Occupational First Aid Level 3 (Pro Renewal)

The WorkSafeBC Occupational First Aid Level Three Renewal course is a 36 hour program designed for prior Level III ticket holders. Upon successful completion of both the written and practical exam the student will receive certification that is valid for three years.

Trauma Tech strongly recommends that participants register for this course ONLY if they have taken the full Level Three course two or more times in the past. There is no instruction in this course, it is basically a supervised review course where participants go through scenarios and review and practice their skills.

The course curriculum includes:

  • Basic Life Support & CPR (CPR A)
  • Patient assessment
  • Critical airway & respiratory, interventions with C-Spine management, including insertion of oral airways, use of oxygen therapy equipment and bag valve mask
  • Circulatory interventions and management
  • Small wound, soft tissue, and fracture management
  • Rapid transport criteria
  • Suction

Transportation Endorsement

The WorkSafeBC Transportation Endorsement course is an 8 hour program focusing specifically on the transport of injured workers to medical aid. In order to participate in this training a candidate must hold a current OFA Level 1 certificate at a minimum. This certification is valid for three years upon successful completion of course. In order to be successful, candidates must demonstrate practical skill competency.

The course curriculum includes:

  • Patient packaging for transport include supine and lateral positioning for trauma, ¾ prone drainage and position of comfort
  • Review of patient assessment to an OFA Level 1 standard
  • Review of critical airway, breathing and circulatory intervention with C-Spine management
